Normalization
As the world came to a haul, I find myself questioning normalisation. What is normal? Is it the rat race we call life? Race you to the top of the CEO chain in my misery of success. As I become a young adult soon to enter a new academic space or even a career space in the next couple of years, I tend to question the “dream”.
What is this dream that is timelessly being advertised or chased by citizens of the world to the point where we have become oblivious? Oblivious to the changes. We have caused copious of distraction as we become less compassionate in search of the dream. I find it rather funny we follow this dream, but we are never satisfied. I too am guilty of not being satisfied by the dream but what has sat me apart is the realisation that yes, we live in a world that is run by money but in a blink of an eye that can all come to a haul. Amid the corona virus pandemic, we were stuck in the selfish cycle chasing the pointless dream as forests set alight, cities submerged and not to mention the counties which turned into wreckage as famine, poverty and war arrogated the land leaving families vagrant. Today as I sit in the comfort of my home and watch the world beginning to normalise again, I can’t help but to ask has this taught us anything. Regardless of your wealth, degree or nationality you were put into fear by something that is unseen as world leaders became responsible for the livelihoods of their nations I could not help to ask myself why has this been considered a pandemic when we have been struggling for years now with the disease of selfishness, hatred and without pity. Why were we not put into nationwide lockdowns to stop the curb of destruction and hatred as we chased the dream of success, but can we really call ourselves successful in world of poverty, killing, famine, pollution, gender-based violence, animal abuse, racism and many more.
As I look back at normalisation it saddens me that I live in a world without pity as we chase the never-ending dream only to realise we the temporary citizens of the world will never be satisfied…
